The Puget Sound Partnership believes that one of the best investments the state can make is to support community organizations that are already working to protect and restore Puget Sound .

Seven million people in two countries and countless species of marine animals and plants depend upon a clean, healthy ecosystem. It is in everyone's best interest to care for their local piece of the larger region. And, protecting the whole system requires collaboration across political, social and philosophical boundaries. Partnerships that work across political and geographical boundaries are an essential part of the PIE program.

What is PIE?

Since 1987, the Partnership has awarded millions of dollars to hundreds of projects through its Public Involvement and Education (PIE) program.

The PIE program is one of the most powerful tools in the region for protecting and improving Puget Sound 's water quality and marine resources. PIE dollars help citizens, schools, businesses, non-profits, local and tribal governments to:

  • Create solutions to local pollution problems.
  • Protect, preserve and restore habitat.
  • Motivate people to be environmental stewards.
  • Partner with others for lasting results.

What are PIE projects?

A 6-foot dog who educates people about why they should clean up their pet's waste...a program that trains volunteers to be Beach Naturalists...marinas that agree to adopt stringent pollution prevention practices...a program that takes back unused and unwanted pharmaceticals to prevent the toxic waste from getting into our waters... These are just a few examples of the diverse projects that have received PIE funding.
